REVIEW
Anna is a busy heart surgeon, she has recently separated from her husband and is trying to juggle the pressures of her high-stress job with looking after her young son Zack. Anna relies heavily on her neighbour Paula who helps look after her son and pick him up from school, but one day she returns home to find a group of men in her house. They have murdered Paula and kidnapped Zack, insisting that Anna kills a prominent MP who she is due to operate on shortly, if she wants her son back alive. Faced with an impossible decision, Anna not only has to make her choice, but also deal with the fallout of her actions.
What can I say... Do No Harm is certainly the most tense story I've read this year! It didn't take long for the adrenaline to start pumping as the opening chapters describe Anna at work as she desperately battles to save a patient on her operating table. Unfortunately for Anna, this is just the tip of the iceberg as she returns home to find her son has been taken. I really felt the strain on Anna from page one and continued to worry for her physical and mental health as she was forced into this unimaginable ordeal. The weight of the decision she was forced into making was so vivid and it really made me think about the amount of stress one person could reasonably deal with.
This was a thoroughly gripping read and what struck me the most was my own reaction to Anna's situation. I realised that if I had read this book a few years ago, my opinion would probably have been very different. With two young children myself, I really empathised with Anna as a mother over anything else and I can see how this story could raise some really interesting discussions.
Full of drama, tension and moral dilemmas, Do No Harm is a non-stop rollercoaster ride of a thriller - you might need a lie down after this one!

After selling at auction in the UK and numerous foreign territories, Do No Harm is set to be the thriller of the summer in 2022. The idea for Do No Harm came to Jack after undergoing a minor medical procedure where he had to be sedated and trust strangers with his welfare. After the anaesthesia wore off, Jack began scribbling his notes, wondering to himself just how iron-clad a surgeon’s oath is, and what it would take to break it…
