REVIEW
Mina is preparing to work on the first non-stop flight from the UK to Australia. After months of tension following the separation from her husband, she is relieved to be spending a few days away from home, but soon after she boards the plane she starts to get the feeling that something isn't quite right.
Adam is left at home looking after their daughter Sophia. What he doesn't realise is that there has been a threat made against her life, putting Mina in the impossible position of choosing between Sophia and the hundreds of passengers and crew on her flight.
I am a nervous flyer... what was I thinking reading this book? Yes, I know it's fiction, but it felt so real that it certainly hasn't helped my irrational fear. But, what I loved about this book was that it never stopped building the tension and that is exactly what you want from a thriller. From the moment the plane took off I just kept wondering how bad it could possibly get, and every time I thought the worst was over, the characters were hit with yet another setback or terrifying reveal.
I was actually very surprised when the people responsible for the hostage situation were introduced and also surprised by their cause and reasoning behind their movement. It wasn't the direction I had imagined it taking but it worked perfectly for the storyline and really played on my mind after I'd finished reading.
Hostage is a fantastic choice for a summer thriller, thoroughly entertaining and it certainly raises a lot of questions. If you're looking for a bookclub read then this book is perfect and would definitely keep the discussions flowing!
