The Lies You Told

by Harriet Tyce

SYNOPSIS Sadie loves her daughter and will do anything to keep her safe.

She can't tell her why they had to leave home so quickly - or why Robin's father won't be coming with them to London.

She can't tell her why she hates being back in her dead mother's house, with its ivy-covered walls and its poisonous memories.

And she can't tell her the truth about the school Robin's set to start at - a school that doesn't welcome newcomers.

Sadie just wants to get their lives back on track.

But even lies with the best intentions can have deadly consequences...

REVIEW

It was impossible to scroll through Instagram last year without seeing the distinctive cover for Blood Orange, so I was thrilled to be able to take part in the blog tour to celebrate the paperback release of Harriet Tyce's second novel - The Lies You Told.

This is one of those books where, after reading the blurb and the first few chapters, I had an idea about where the story was going to lead and how things would play out. As I continued reading I was proved wrong and the story took several different directions, bouncing around with two or three different aspects of the narrative to follow - always keeping me on my toes!

I always know when a character has been well written when I genuinely despise them, and I had that feeling with several of the characters at various points throughout this story. The competitive school setting is one that always gives me that feeling of dread (think Big Little Lies). There is something about the toxic world of competitive parenting that lends itself really well to these types of thrillers.

The conclusion to Part 1 of the book definitely got my heart racing, and from then on it was just one explosive event after another making it impossible to put down. If you are looking for a dark, psychological or domestic thriller that keeps you guessing until the last page, then this is definitely the book for you!
